Table Lamp

This ongoing series treats each lamp as a portrait, using furniture to preserve personal stories through material, color, and ornament.

The first lamp is dedicated to my grandmother, who grew up during a time of material scarcity in China. Though she often wears dark, practical clothing, she transformes them by sewing on bright pink lace and floral trims.

This lamp reflects one of my earliest lessons from her: decoration is never unnecessary. Rather than competing with function, ornament gives practical objects warmth, character, and a sense of self.
